Taco Rolling Road Day
2oth November 2004
What do you get up to on wet Saturday afternoons? For some of the members of TACO this was not the question they were thinking about on a soggy wet Saturday afternoon of the 20 November. For them the question put to them was “How fast do you want to go today?” Alan Jeffrey Engineering located on an industrial estate in Plympton are automotive professionals. The sign above his premises teases the budding speed merchant with this question while inside he has equipment to test the power output from the go faster boy racer machine to say a Tickford Capri.
Well unfortunately a Tickford Capri didn’t make an appearance but more importantly TACO members and their guests had opted to have their nerves tested and possibly their egos as well.
Ten members and their guests volunteered to have their pride and joys put through their paces.
A journalist from Classic Ford magazine arrived to report on the afternoon’s proceedings. He took a number of action shots in the workshops and interviewed each member in turn about asking them whether their car was in standard specification or what modifications had been carried out.
On completion of all the tests the Classic Ford journalist asked us to assemble for a group photograph in front of the line up of our cars. Fortunately the rain held off for this. We questioned him as to when his article would appear in the magazine and he responded by saying within the next two issues. After thanking him for attending most of the members opted to return to the pub to talk some more about life, the universe and Capri’s before making our way respective ways home after what was a very successful and enjoyable afternoon.
Thanks again to Gail, to Guy for his usual enthusiasm and organisation, to all those members and their guests for attending and contributing to the success of the event.
Unfortunately we didn't make a note of all the individual performances, but these figures are due to be published in Classic Ford magazine in January or Febuary 2005
