Dorset Show 2006We received an e-mail invitation to attend this show about six weeks before it was due to be held. Daniel (my son) and I had attended one of their shows when it was held at the Bovington Tank Museum and had enjoyed the event immensely. The Dorset Club had recently gone through a difficult time and was recovering due to the determination of several of their key members. DCC had also supported us in some numbers at our first show and so we decided that it would be fun to return the compliment. The show was to be held at their old venue, which also offered camping and basic amenities. Sadly most of our other members had other commitments that weekend, or their cars were off the road in preparation for our own show in August. So it was, that in scorching sunshine Dan and I set out from Tavistock and headed East. We stopped briefly at the Star at Honiton and found the site (after a search) at about seven in the evening. Pitching camp we discovered that a prospective member, Brian from Barnstaple had already arrived with his daughter Shelby Caprice (honest) and his father. An entertaining evening commenced, during which we were treated to a most impressive light show from a Mk3 Convertible that had turned up. We finally hit the sack at about 1am. Sunday dawned slightly overcast but still hot. At about 11am teams were picked and then followed some wonderful entertainment, apparently this was the club knockout, although I didn’t cotton on until halfway through the games. As it was the determined TACO team still forced two tie-breaks and only lost by the narrowest of margins to Milton Keynes, not bad for the newcomers! All three TACO cars picked up an award, Brian for second best Mk3, Guy’s for best Mk1 (just pipping a restored RS3100) and Daniel for 3rd ICE (there were only three entrants in this category!) We all had a fantastic time, and although it was possibly not the best attended event, it was probably one of the most fun and had some fantastic machinery on view, A huge thank you must go to Jane and her supporters for hosting such a great event, Keep up the good work in the future. |
