The Dartmoor Run 2006

A new route and another run. Once again Paul managed to put together a great route through scenic Dartmoor. In spite of working all hours with his new business, well done Paul.

Paul’s day started earlier than most when he had to guide our London based members to their country hotel B&B at 2am on the day of the run! Rumour has it that they were astonished to find cows looking up at them when they opened the curtains five hours later…..

The turnout. Although not spectacular, due in part to several cars not being ready in time, was very varied. A first outing for Barrie’s Brookie, three Mk1’s, Rob’s 3.0ltr beast and a wide assortment of other Mk3’s including one from Duchy Club and two large American vehicles completed the line-up of fourteen. The route was similar to last year, but reversed and avoiding some difficult junctions. This also had the added bonus of giving the participants a new view of the moor.

There were two stops on route, one at Badgers Halt and the second at Postbridge. Postbridge turned out to be interesting in more ways than one. Firstly the car park was full, the only space available being the unoccupied coach bay, and secondly the chance meeting with a well modified Mk3 from Torquay. A great Capri enthusiast, who described himself as independent, and in no way club orientated, drove this car. The Torbay club had tried repeatedly to recruit him and failed, who knows perhaps the draw of TACO may yet entice him? Unfortunately the appearance of a coach party broke us up and we had to hit the road again.

The run finished at The Leg of Mutton in Yelverton. Those who wanted to eat went on to The Rock, and those who were happy to wait for the chef’s appearance at 5.30 stayed on. Despite the confusion over end times and eating, everyone who took part enjoyed the run and over £60 was raised towards Cancer Research.
