The Dartmoor Run 2004

The week prior to our Dartmoor Run had been wet and windy and so it came as a pleasant surprise to wake up on Sunday morning to clear skies.
We gathered in Bedford Square, Tavistock from 10.30am to admiring glances and a lot of support from the public. There was however one individual who voiced his opposition to cars being parked in the square, it transpired later that he had been refused permission by the Town Council to sell Jaguar cars from the square!
We left the square with fifteen Capris, two RS2000’s (MkII & V) and a P100 Cortina Pickup at midday, and had a wonderful drive across Dartmoor, unfortunately losing the boys from Duchy en-route! They thought they knew the area and didn’t refer to the directions that we’d given them.
The weather stayed fine and there were no serious mechanical problems. Both Mk1’s suffered slightly, Tony’s having had an over enthusiastic oil fill by his apprentice, trailed smoke on any incline greater than 10% and Guy’s suffered from a binding front brake, boiled its brake fluid which resulted in a complete loss of brakes!
The Warren House Inn coped admirably with the onslaught from about 2pm, and Paul went in search of the Cornish element of his flock, who arrived on their own devices having missed him about an hour and a half later, having taken in Bovey Tracey and all points east!
Everyone who took part enjoyed themselves, and thanks must go to Paul for the time and effort that he put into organising the event. Paul is already thinking about next years run, so his search and rescue mission obviously did not put him off.
On Thursday the our run made headline news in the Tavistock Times, following misinformation fed to them by our “friend” in the square, this resulted in a letter of apology from the Town Council to TACO and a letter to the editor by Guy the following week.
